Our History

Our company has served Wellington for over 100 years and we still have the records from that time available. We are happy to share those records with you to help you develop your personal family histories.

In 1999 we moved from the corner of John Street and Adelaide Road, to our new premises at 375 Adelaide Road. This building was refurbished to house our chapel, reception lounge and our other excellent facilities.

The original owner was Robert H. Wilson who married Emily Saunders in Featherston in 1882, whilst stationed at Pencarrow lighthouse. Their first child, Alice Charlotte, was born in 1885. Robert left the lighthouse service and got work as a contractor in Wellington, and by 1897 his name appeared above the premises of Flyger and Wilson, Undertakers and Contractors, operating out of 20 Cuba Street. A year later, Robert opened his own undertaking business from 13 Tutchen Street Mt Victoria. Between the years 1902 to 1905, Robert moved his business to 164 Adelaide Road, Newtown. Robert died at the age of 91 leaving behind a very strong funeral company.
