Headstones and Monumental Work
At The Wilson Funeral Home, we coordinate all monumental work on your behalf, so you do not need to deal with multiple providers. We assist with council and cemetery requirements, placement, and timeframes, and liaise directly with Decra Art’s specialist team to arrange the design, production, and installation of the memorial.
We are able to design and create a wide variety of monuments, headstones, gravestones, and memorial plaques to suit individual preferences and budgets. As regulations vary between regions, local council and cemetery by-laws can influence what type, size, or style of memorial is permitted. Our team will guide you through these requirements and ensure all designs comply with the relevant rules.
We can organise monuments, headstones, gravestones, and cremation memorial plaques throughout New Zealand, including across Wellington, Kāpiti Coast, Lower Hutt, and Upper Hutt regions. Wherever the memorial is to be installed, we manage the process for you from start to finish.
Headstone Styles and Personalisation
We offer an extensive range of memorials, from traditional upright headstones to more contemporary designs. Whether you prefer something simple and understated or a more distinctive shape, we can help you choose a style that reflects your loved one.
You can select from 56 shapes, 14 granite colours, custom lettering options, and preview a scaled computer drawing before the memorial is crafted. We can also show you sample designs and photographs to help you visualise the finished memorial.
Every memorial can be personalised to tell your loved one’s story. Our monumental masons are experienced in crafting inscriptions, artwork, and decorative features into natural stone using high-quality engraving and sandblasting techniques.
- Wording for the inscription, including additional names or future inscriptions if needed.
- Lettering styles, layout, and inscription colour.
- Artwork, religious symbols, emblems, borders, or motifs that are meaningful to your family.
If you wish, we can also arrange ceramic photographs and other special touches to further personalise the headstone.
How the Process Works
We understand that choosing a memorial can feel overwhelming, so we keep the process as simple and clear as possible:
- Initial conversation: We talk with you about the person being remembered, any cemetery requirements, and your ideas for the memorial.
- Design and quote: We discuss suitable headstone styles, granite colours, and inscription options, then arrange a design and quotation.
- Approval and ordering: Once you are happy with the design and wording, we confirm everything in writing and place the order.
- Crafting the memorial: Decra Art manufactures and engraves the headstone.
- Installation: When the memorial is ready, we coordinate delivery and installation at the cemetery and let you know once it is in place.
Existing Memorials and Additional Inscriptions
If there is already a family headstone in place, we can arrange additional inscriptions or updates. We can also assist with refurbishment, cleaning, or maintenance where appropriate, and will seek advice from the monumental masons on the best way to care for the stone.
